Innovation over Inertia: Creating Small Wins to Increase Innovation
Change is difficult. There are those of us who are able to adapt quickly and well to change, but the majority of people like to keep things fairly aligned with their current state. It isn’t that they are unable to change, but the inertia is applied to the slower moving organization. Companies may even lead their business sector on the outside, but internally could be facing challenges of slow adoption of new technology.
It could be that people are risk averse because the leap from current state to the point where innovation is occurring more quickly and easily, can be a long one. If you take a step and then think that you would have to repeat that over 55,000 times to reach a marathon distance, you may never start running one. The way that we escape the inertia challenge is to break this down into more meaningful, and achievable stages.
